ALIGN-IT SAG SENSOR

(patent pending)

A new sag determination procedure

Find Sag directly from the equipment to be aligned without using a pipe or mandrel

Align-It has engineered a new procedure to measure alignment tool sag without using a pipe or mandrel to mimic the dial indicator mounting setup. Sag can now be measured right on the equipment being aligned. This new concept uses a Sag Sensor to select shims to be added or removed to correct for sag and vertical plane parallel offset misalignment.

Dial indicator mounting rods and accessories used for shaft alignment measurements are subject to the affects of gravity and deflection which cause inaccurate measurements for shim requirements. The amount of sag varies with the length and stiffness of the dial indicator assembly and is different for every alignment project. Sag should be compensated for on every job in order to achieve good alignment results.

Sag is typically determined by mounting the dial indicator, rods and brackets on a rigid mandrel or pipe exactly as the setup would be on the actual alignment job to be performed. Because of physical limitations, it is not always possible to mimic the actual setup conditions such as measuring from a shaft on a motor to an outside edge of a pump coupling. Sag can be determined for any combination of dial indicator rod and bracket arrangement with the SAG SENSOR.

The mandrel and dial indicator assembly are rotated to top dead center and the dial is set to zero. The mandrel or pipe is then rotated to bottom dead center and the sag measurement is taken. The sag reading is algebraically subtracted from the dial indicator reading of the actual vertical plane parallel offset measurement to calculate the shimming requirements.

Performing a sag compensation procedure on every alignment job is very time consuming and expensive. How many times has sag been ignored? No more measuring and mimicking setups on a mandrel. Use a SAG SENSOR.

EASY TO USE

Place the SAG SENSOR on the shaft or outside diameter of the coupling directly under the dial indicator probe. Set the SAG SENSOR serrated knob to the bottom most setting without lifting the base off the shaft. Using the 3 axis level as a guide, rotate the dial indicator setup to the top dead center position and adjust the dial reading to zero. From this point, follow the sag procedure instructions to find the sag and shim correction requirements in just a few sequential moves of the shafts.
